Tranan Publishing House
Tranan Publishing House issued its first book in 1992, and has since then published some 300 titles. The literary focus of the publishing house is translations of quality fiction from Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe; language areas that are commonly neglected on the Swedish book market. In English, “Tranan” means “The Crane Bird”.
Among our flagships is the storytelling series, in which interesting short stories from all parts in the world is presented for a Swedish audience. As of present day more than 20 countries are represented, three of which are Cambodia, Egypt and Brazil.
Some of “our” authors include Chinua Achebe, Salim Barakat, Thomas Bernhard, Roberto Bolaño, Shen Congwen, Nikolaj Gogol, Clarice Lispector, Federico García Lorca, Herta Müller, Yi Muyôl, José Saramago, Nguên Huy Thiêp and Thomas Tranströmer.
Tranan has received several prices for its publishing, among them an award from the Swedish Nobel Academy.
